Montara, California, on the San Mateo
County coast, the Goose and Turrets
Bed & Breakfast offers a quick
getaway from San Francisco and Silicon
Valley. The historic building (constructed
around 1907) and its
sheltering gardens are only 20 minutes
from the San Francisco International
Airport and 25 miles south of downtown
San Francisco. Better yet, a long sandy
beach where harbor seals stare back at
the occasional beachcomber is a
pleasant half-mile walk away. The
rooms are filled with creature comforts -
fluffy goosedown comforters on the
beds, thick towels on the warmers, and
reading chairs and writing desks with
good lighting. The common room with its
cheery woodstove is just the place for
afternoon tea and treats.
Pampered guests are welcome to
read, chat, play the piano, try their hand
at chess or cribbage; outside there's
bocce ball for the active, and a hammock
and swing for those who'd rather be still
and watch the fountain splash in the rose
garden.
