| Visitors to the Henry F. Shaffner House will find an elegant Queen Anne Tudor-style Victorian mansion of a bygone era just blocks from historic Old Salem and downtown Winston-Salem. The inn has been carefully renovated and was awarded the city's restoration award. Handsome gables, copper roof shingles and an elegant iron fence establish the house's unique appeal. Built by Henry Fries Shaffner, co-founder of Wachovia Loan & Trust Company, the mansion boasts original tiger oak woodwork, hand carrved mantels and a grand staircase. The inn is popular for weddings, corporate retreats and special events. Each room is distinctively decorated with tastefully selected furnishings and fabrics. All guest rooms feature television, cable, high-speed internet connection, telephone and private bath. Business travelers will appreciate the availability of a fax machine and copier. A favored guest room is the Piedmont Room which encompasses the top floor and features a king-size canopy bed, whirpool tub for two, wet bar and sitting room. A full breakfast is served in the historic dining room. The inn's restaurant serves gourmet cuisine each evening. On Sundays, brunch is served.
