"A NIGHT'S DELIGHT~A BREAKFAST TO REMEMBER" is our mission and succinctly describes the legendary Award Winning "Stonewall Jackson Experience"!
We are a Certified Virginia Green, 3-Diamond Inn and TRIP ADVISOR'S TOP RATED B&B IN THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY.

Where we got our name...
The STONEWALL JACKSON INN, as a (circa 1870) Queen Ann mansion, sits on "Nob Hill" overlooking the Historic District of downtown Harrisonburg. Historically called Rocktown, the city played a central role in the Civil War as it was the supply stand distribution depot for General Lee's major campaigns. General Stonewall Jackson was on the faculty of the famous Virginia Military Institute, knew the Valley well, and was General Lee's first choice to be the "Valley's Defender". There were 11 assaults on the City, but it was never taken until he was killed. His Headquarters for his brilliant 1863 summer campaign was just outside the city at Elkton.
Easy to find and close-by!
It is an easy walk from the Inn to The Historic District, The Old Confederate Cemetery, fine restaurants, museums, shops and theater venues. We are centrally located in respect to James Madison & Eastern Mennonite Universities, Interstate 81 and the City Center. The Inn is a local landmark, known by everyone, and is easy to find.
Did you know?
On a brief historical note; you should know that Harrisonburg was torched and burned to the ground by General Sheridan after General Jackson's unfortunate death from being accidentally shot by his own Pickett. Sheridan's Headquarters, of course was not burned, and still stands right next to the Inn.
There is some interesting history of how the Inn was built by a "Carpet Bagger" Sea Captain right after the Civil War. So visit our web site to learn more.
Our web site also has links to fully inform you of the environs as well as the inn and the Valley attractions. There is a lot to see and do.
Oh, Shenandoah...
"Daughter of the Stars" is the English translation of the Seneca Indian descriptive word for The Great and Beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It is a top tourist and recreation destination in Virginia. The Stonewall Jackson Inn is located in the center of this historic fertile valley as it was created when the African Continent collided with the North American coast eons ago. The famous Blue Ridge Mountains mark the eastern continental collision point, while the Allegheny Mountains mark the original coastline America. Consequently, The Valley floor is the original coastal plain with limestone caverns, fossils, pressure ridges and it is 1200 feet above sea level. (No bugs:-))
Breathtaking beauty
A valley in the Mountains, which are covered with hardwood forests, brilliant in the fall, flowering in the spring, green with streams and waterfalls in the summer, beautiful downhill and cross-country skiing in the wintertime. Eighty percent of the mountains are either State or National Parks or preserved Wild National Forest. Canoeing, White Water rafting, fishing, hiking, biking, or a lazy beautiful motor trip over the Scenic Continental Divide's Skyline Drive. The Shenandoah is truly a four seasons destination and the Stonewall Jackson Inn is ideally located right in the middle of all this!
