The Innkeeper Bed and Breakfast Guide

Todd House

Current rating: (3.3 out of 5.0)

Rated 4.0: The Todd House was a pleasant surprise. Comfortable, well kept, and the owner was a delight. So well versed in local history and a splendid hostess. Bar Harbor, it is not. Thank God! So warm and special.

Rated 1.0: This stay was disappointing at best. Other than the view, (although it was somewhat obstructed with other homes built closer to the water) and the shower in our room, nothing positive can be said. The outdoor fireplace noted on the website was obstructed by spare lumber and materials. After our arrival, we found out that our room had been given to another couple due to the lack of organization by the Inn Keeper. The room was clean on the surface but had not been tended to in some time. The bed was old and springs could be felt through the mattress. While breakfast was stated as part of the stay, we were never given a time nor allowed to see the dining room. Upon our request we were told we could see it another time. The website states mulitiple forms of payment are an option, cash or check were the only option given upon check out. The "period antiques" referred to were simply old, used furniture. The two options for entering the room were through the back of the house through grass or through the Inn Keepers living room, kitchen, and laundry room. The Inn Keeper was unable to give recommendations for meals in town and being that the town shuts down at approximately 8:00 pm, guests are left to find meals on their own. This may have been a beautiful stay at one time but it appears to have become more of a local boarding house than a vacation inn.

Rated 5.0: Ruth was the owner then, and she kept us informed as well as well-fed. You should visit the Todd House!
