| The Old Rose Tavern B&B Current rating:
(4.6 out of 5.0)
|
 |
| Rated 4.5: This is a revised posting --- in my first one I said there were no TVs, but I guess there were - I just never turned one on!
Anyway, the Old Rose has a racious hostess, good food, nice views from big front porch (espefcially during Autumn!!!), QUIET day and night, and a very interesting, historical place that used to be a stage stop between Charlottesville and points north. We liked it a lot.
Speaking of History, next door is an old blockhouse that might have been built (at the latest) during the Civil War, but I think it was from colonial days, when this area was on the edge of the frontier.
We rented all three rooms for a small reunion of old friends, and had both our privacy and some friendly chats with our very pleasant hostess. This is a place to lose track of time and the outside world for a few days, which was exactly what we wanted. However we did have internet access for checking on restaurants in Culpeper.
The Old Rose is just a few miles off the beaten path (3 or 4 miles from Rte 29, I guess), but it's an easy, scenic drive to Madison, Charlottesville, Culpper, and Skyline Drive. You might be disappointed if you demand huge bathrooms. But if you like a friendly atmosphere and a clean place to stay, the Old Rose is perfect. |

| Rated 5.0: This Valentine's gift for my husband was everything I hoped it would be - romantic, historic, charming...probably the most private suite we could have imagined. Apparently the guests in the next suite had an infant, who we never heard. Just lovely. |

| Rated 4.5: Very friendly and relaxing. I loved getting tea served to my room in the morning. I recommend this country retreat for anyone who wants to relax, unwind, and forget the urban life for awhile |
