| Amethyst Inn at Regents Park Current rating:
(5.0 out of 5.0)

| Rated 5.0: The ideal B&B experience has been quite elusive for us. So many homes have all the mechanics right: lovely setting, nicely decorated rooms, etc., but in our travels, few have met the real reason we choose this unique travel-style over more conventional hotel/motel choices. On our recent visit to Victoria, B.C., we discovered that our hopes for the intangibles really can be found at Amethyst Inn where hosts, Karl and Grace Sands have lifted their newly restored Victorian heritage mansion out of the stereotypical B&B into a living, breathing experience of discreet, warm hospitality. The Sands are justifiably proud of their four-year restoration project. The home and rooms are lovely and lavish, but not overbearing. The breakfast is beautifully presented, as is tea. The lively conversation with interesting guests was spontaneous and caused us to linger at the table. Grace and Karl have their fingers on the local activities, many of which we would never have found on our own. They also helped us with the sometimes tricky travel arrangements that the ferry systems require. From the first get-acquainted conversation upon our arrival, to a late night review of our day, and finally to regretful goodby smiles and hugs, we were enfolded into the gracious daily life of our hosts. We left this beautiful city with a tacet vow to return to enjoy and renew ourselves again at Amethyst Inn, where we found our finest B&B experience yet. |
